Settle Down

In the example I gave, I said the following:

“Now, we wanted to settle down in the US. So, after a couple of years we moved here to Asheville, North Carolina and it was then when I went full-time teaching one-to-one lessons.

This means that we wanted to stay in one place – to get a house, have kids etc.

Here are four more examples of this phrasal verb:

  • “Football managers want their players to settle down
  • “Do you think he’ll ever settle down?”
  • “Settle down and tell me what’s wrong” – This means to ‘calm down’
  • “Let’s settle down on the sofa and watch a movie” – This means to get comfortable on the sofa.
