Do You Need to Make a Change to Make Progress With Your English?

What Einstein Can Teach Us About Learning English

The famous quote attributed to Einstein says that:

“Insanity is doing the same thing over again and expecting different results.”

This is something that I notice with certain English learners: they expect to improve but don’t make any changes to their learning.

But it’s not just English learners who have this problem. In fact, it’s a human behavioral problem.

Here are more examples:

  • Eating the same diet and expecting to get slimmer.
  • Performing the same at work and expecting to get a promotion.
  • Not training and expecting to get better at football.

But it doesn’t have to be like that.

Do You Need to Make a Change?

I want you to think about what level of English you had exactly one year ago. Now think about your level of English now.

My question is this:

Are you satisfied with your progress?

If not, then it’s time to change something.

In my previous post, I talked about the biggest change you can make to reach fluency (read this here). Whether you make this change or not (it’s easier than you think), you still probably need to change something.

Maybe you need to find a podcast you love. Maybe you need to make more English speaking friends. Or maybe you just need to take yourself out of your comfort zone and get speaking.

But the first stage is knowing that you need to do something differently. So, do you?
