Be vs Get Used to Doing Something

In the example I gave, I said the following:

“…it means that my body isn’t used to playing football and I just need to get used to it, after a few games I’ll feel fine.”

The first phrase I used – my body isn’t used to playing football – is saying that my body isn’t accustomed to doing this.

The second phrase I used – I just need to get used to it – it focusing on the process of becoming accustomed to something. This is talking about a change over time.

I gave more examples in the video. For example…

“It was strange at first, but now I’m used to living in the U.S.”

This means that living in the U.S. is normal for me now. I’m used to it.

But…

“My friend, who just moved here, is getting used to living in the U.S.”

He is going through the process of becoming accustomed to living in the U.S.

And…

“People aren’t used to his accent.”

This means that people are accustomed to his accent. It isn’t something they usually hear.

The last example I gave was this…

“I used to live in Spain.”

This means that in the past, I lived in Spain.

This looks similar to the other examples, but we use the infinite and start the sentence with ‘I’ and not ‘I am’.

What to Do Now:
