English Lesson: How Do You Get to Work?

english lesson

In this lesson, you are going to learn words and phrases related to the daily commute.

English Lesson Notes

At the start of the lesson, I introduced this picture from Instagram and the phrase, “I’m so full.”

Here are two other ways to say this:

  1. I’m stuffed
  2. I couldn’t eat another bite

From there, we talked about the daily commute. This means the journey you take from your home to work and then back again. I asked the question: how do you get to work? Be sure to see the comments (in the video) to listen to some answers.

We then discussed this article. Here are some ways that you can improve your daily commute.

  1. Listen to podcasts: this is something that you should be doing to get more listening practice.
  2. Make it leisurely: this means setting off early and not worrying about being late.
  3. Find a different route to work: notice the difference between the British and American English pronunciation.
  4. Disconnect completely: this means not thinking about work and not checking your phone.
  5. Brainstorm: this is the opposite of number four and means coming up with new ideas and solutions to any problems you have.

At the end of the lesson, I gave an example of the difference between the simple past and present perfect. See more examples here.
